SAINT-ETIENNE, France (AP) — Morocco fans crashed the pitch to protest a late goal by Argentina at the opening match of the Olympic football tournament on Wednesday, causing chaos with just minutes left to play.
Soufiane Rahimi scored either side of half-time to put Morocco 2-0 up at at Saint-Etienne's Stade Geoffroy-Guichard before Argentina's Giuliano Galoppo reduced the deficit in the 74th minute.
With time running out, substitute Ezequiel Ponce headed home a cross from beyond the halfway line to level for Argentina in the 85th.
The goal sparked a furious reaction from Morocco fans, who invaded the pitch and confronted players from both sides.
Security guards struggled to control the situation as fans ran onto the pitch, threw objects and attempted to approach the players.
The match was eventually stopped with just three minutes of normal time remaining, and the referee led the players off the field.
It was not immediately clear if the match would be resumed.
